It looks like Sony is kicking off another format war by rejecting YouView which could see it enter a format war with TV manufacturers who will support YouView and those who won't.
Expect this to take as many years to come to a head as the Beta/VHS (which it lost badly) or the Blue-Ray/HD-DVD (which it won, but only a luke-warm victory as the world had already moved on to Internet on-demand viewing) battles have, but given that the populace is starting to move to on-demand viewing on things like iPlayer and the like, the scene is set for Sony to lose big style as their refusal to bring YouView to their TVs could very well see them lose masively on sales, as other television technologies plummet in price.
It does beg the question though; if Sony is rejecting YouView then if it wants to stay relevant then it will have to offer an alternative. It would be damn stupid not to.
